919 Marketing Accepting Applications for Summer Internships

Holly Springs, NC – March 10, 2008 – 919 Marketing, a leading Triangle-based marketing and public relations firm, is currently seeking dynamic, motivated and tenacious college students for its summer internship program, which runs from May to August 2008. The deadline for application submissions is Friday, March 21, 2008. Preference is given to students in their junior and senior years of college who can work at least 15 hours per week.

“919 provided my first meaningful PR experience, helped me strengthen my portfolio, and as a result, opened doors of opportunity that may not have come otherwise,” said Ashley Simmons a UNC student who recently interned with the agency.

Interns learn first-hand the day-to-day workings of one of the Triangle area’s top ten public relations firms and learn directly from experts the ins and outs of the public relations and marketing industries.

919 provides opportunities for both undergraduates and recent graduates through its program. Requirements include current enrollment in or a B.A. from an accredited 4-year college or university, an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and strong written and verbal communication skills. Majors in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business and Marketing are preferred, though not a requirement. 919 will work with universities to give interns academic credit for their work if applicable. Intern positions are unpaid.

Because 919 works very closely with its interns to make sure they get the most out of their experience, many of former interns are now employees of 919.

To apply for the summer program, email your resume and cover letter to hr@919marketing.com on or before March 21, 2008.

Don’t be Crunched by the Credit Crunch – Upgrade Your Marketing!

Are you going to let the “Credit Crunch” crunch you? Even though the present negative press and media coverage is enough to make you pack up and head for the hills – don’t! Or, burying your head in the sand isn’t going to help either – you need to take some positive action!

In ignorance, many companies pull the plug on their marketing budgets when times get tough – but that is very short sighted. Why is your business in decline? It’s because you have less clients, or your current clients are spending less.

So what is the solution?

Yes, you need more clients or encourage those you work with to spend more with you. As a marketing company, we often have people come to us when they are in trouble. Through months or possibly years of neglect of their sales pipeline, they have reached difficultly where their cash flow dries up, and their forward forecasts will no longer gain them credit with their bankers. That’s such an awful place to reach! So, please learn from other’s mistakes and concentrate your efforts on sales and marketing.

So – how’s your sales pipeline?

Have you dedicated sufficient man hours or staff to ensure that new business will continue to flow your way? It’s highly recommended to introduce new practices in the current climate and here are a few suggestions to get you going:

Re-educate your sales staff to the new demands of business under the Credit Crunch i.e. you are going to have to negotiate harder than before and deliver more

Re-evaluate your current spend on marketing and where possible increase it

Adapt new methods of lead generation and find new sources

Network with increased intensity amongst your clients, prospects, collaborators, partners, suppliers and competitors

Rekindle your relationship with current clients and ensure you are getting your share of business if other suppliers are involved

Tighten your credit control to ensure constant cash flow

Take fewer financial risks than before, and if possible, increase the level of deposits on orders to spread your risk or costs (if applicable)

Introduce something new (Product or service) to make sure your visibility levels remain high with current and potential clients

Automate your sales pipeline using a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system like www.salesforce.com – so you never ever miss another lead or opportunity, and you can track your sales pipeline accurately

Ensure that you confirm at least 30% of this quarter’s pipeline – more if possible

Ensure you are using the internet to your advantage using Search Engine Optimisation, Web 2 practices such as blogging, and raise your presence in social networking and book-marking sites such as Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Facebook etc

I have this promise here to upload one new unique photo per day. This has turned out to be a bad promise, because I mess it up about 10 times a year. Before you get to my daily shot (this one from a little-known flower market from the backside of Dallas), I wanted to do something a little different for those of you that are just getting on Twitter for the first time.

I’ll give you all a list of interesting photographers to follow. If you guys have more suggestions, send me a message at @treyratcliff. Note this is not my list of top 10 photographers in the world… just cool people that make interesting Twitter updates. I’ll try to make a new list every month or so…since it’s hard to get to know 50 people at once, I’ll roll them out slowly!

#1 – @stevesimon – This guy cracks me up. I first heard him on the TWIP (This Week in Photography) Podcast. He has a wonderful sense of humor, and I generally agree with everything he says. I’m putting him first on my list because I wish more photographers were like him.

#2 – @thomashawk – Who doesn’t know this guy? He’s nice as heck, and his Type A personality keeps his overachievement in high-gear. We’re also in agreement about many of the bad things about Flickr… it’s so close to being an even better service!

#3 – @kk – Kris Krug is a great photographer. There is something creative and nice about his work.

#4 – @scottbourne – I like Scott even though he made a snide comment about me on TWIP. I was mentioned on their site of the week and he’s not much of a fan of Creative Commons, I can tell. But he’s still a pretty nice guy and he takes great pics of birds.

#5 – @dcjill – The great Jill Greenberg! She’s protected her updates… but maybe if we all request, she will give in and show us behind the wizard’s curtain.

#6 – @scottkelby – This is another guy everyone probably knows, especially if they watch Photoshop User TV. I was looking for his sidekicks Matt and Dave on Twitter — anyone know their @’s?

#7 – @chasejarvis – An amazingly cool photographer. You can tell he is cool just from his portfolio.

#8 – @mostlylisa – She’s a humble photographer that has a really nice net presence. She also gave me the name of the guy that did her portfolio website, so I owe her one!

#9 – @jessicaclaire – Hey a wedding photographer! She’s a cool gal with a nice sense of style about her photography.

#10 – @alexlindsay – He is smart as a whip and is very active on Twitter. He’s one of those cool people to follow because you find out something that’s useful in real time!

Remember, if you have suggestions for next month’s list, be sure to leave them below or send me a twitter message!

Search Engine Placement Marketing

Search Engine Placement Marketing: A Substantial Articles\’ Platform Is Fundamental For Search Engine Placement Marketing

Your site\’s value is strongly connected to the strength of the information you offer. As you develop a search engine placement marketing platform, certainly view the information on your site as the main factor to become popular and rich on the web. Users search for enlightening and amusing blogs, products or services with strong pluses, worthy guarantee and small risk, interactive and educational information that fills their needs.

Search engine placement marketing is mainly about maintaining uninterrupted and growing visitors within your pages and solid information is the best way to assure users will come to you over and over, grow loyal and enrich your company. If clients treasure your information they will praise it among friends, gifting you with the top kind of advertising there is: constructive word of mouth.

An efficient search engine placement marketing platform has to be founded on appealing information, it has to appeal to your visitors and give them precisely what they are in search for, otherwise, they will leave. Generally, users like small pieces that are simple to scan and go directly to the issue, nevertheless, if the surfer is looking for a solution, the information should be extensive enough to clarify every point.

Actually, the most efficient strategy when deciding the length of the information to provide, is to go with both, brief and extended articles, to fulfill everybody\’s demands. Write interesting and clear concise articles for the majority and detailed and broad versions of these for visitors who want to go deeper.

Recall that as crucial as pulling in visitors is for every search engine placement marketing platform, it is more crucial to keep them within your pages for as long as possible; rich information, whether concise or detailed, is the way to attain it.

The size of your information really depends on what your site\’s objective is. Consider your search engine placement marketing platform and, if its objective is to get money through ads, which refers to a lot of visitors, provide briefer articles and update them regularly. You may be sacrificing worth here, but no problem, as your goal is to pull in lots of visitors to click on a link. Nevertheless, if your objective is to present yourself as an expert on the field, you must demonstrate your expertise and skills, and for this, you have to develop detailed, different and valuable articles deserving of placing you above the competitors and giving you positive notoriety. You have to relate to other recognized discipline members to transmit the concept that you are concerned about everybody\’s wellbeing, not solely yours, and that you regard and recognize who is as versed as you. Ensure your information excels others, write it in an unique style by exploring different viewpoints and transmitting a message of their own. A useful idea is to see what the tendencies are and do something different.

In truth, when your clients are loyal to you, it is a minor thing if information is concise or detailed, they are there because they are engaged and amused. If you want to watch your site develop quickly and solidly, pay attention to what you offer and make sure it invokes your visitors and strengthens your image.

The Jefferson Market (Now the New York Public Library) is located on a triangular plot on 6th Ave and 9th St. The building was originally built as the Third Judicial District Courthouse between the years 1874-1877 from a design by architects Frederick Clarke Withers and Calvert Vaux. Faced with demolition, public outcry led to its reuse as a branch of the New York Public Library.

OB/GYN Marketing

Many OB/GYNs are facing the same challenges, which include lower reimbursement rates, increased competition, and the feeling like the practice is running you – instead of the other way around.

OB/GYNs are facing a changing environment… making it more difficult to attract and keep patients, earn high revenues, develop referrals, and ultimately enjoy a quality of life that was once expected and easily attained by physicians.

We know that an effective and strategic marketing solution can eliminate these obstacles to personal fulfillment, and open the door to new opportunities, growth and satisfaction.

The market is shifting. And due to insurance costs and concerns about liablilty, some doctors are getting our of obstetrics entirely and focusing just on gynecology.

Others are exploring new revenue streams such as cosmetic gynecology. Some are combining disciplines and offering internal medicine, dermatology and OB/GYN under one roof. We ahve also noticed that some OB/GYNs are wanting to focus on attracting certain types of patients and cases that bring either personal fulfillment, higher revenues, or both. Whatever your particular situation is, or how near or far you may feel from your goals of having a more managable, fulfilling practice… there are solutions and methods to get you to where you want to be.

And male OB/GYNs are in need of special marketing that addresses the growing trend towards female-to-female doctor-patient relationships.

The bottom line is this: What you knew about the business of being an OB/GYN has changed and continues to evolve. If you want your practice to thrive and grow in the coming years, contact us for a free OB/GYN marketing consultation. You can ask all the questions you want, and we may even give you a few more that you hadn’t yet thought about.

The Four Truths of Network Marketing

Master these four fundamental steps to network marketing and be all but guaranteed both incredible wealth and great success. Fail to understand the importance of but one, and condemn your business to flounder and ultimately follow the path of so many eager, yet unprepared network marketing hopefuls.

You may be thinking at this point, only four secrets to making millions and millions of dollars? Let’s hear it then. Actually, there is really only one. Time and time again, success story after success story; all have this one truth in common. So, this particular gem I’ll save for last.

If network marketing is all about networking and of course marketing, why do so many network marketers continue to struggle to realize the infinite networking and lead generating potential of the internet? Simply put, it’s being done all wrong. How’s that?

Network marketing (also known as “Multi-Level-Marketing” or MLM) depends most heavily on…

        – recruiting / lead generation / relationship-building

        – sales conversion

        – ongoing consumption

        – replicating yourself through down line motivation and training

If your network marketing business fails to recognize the importance and any one of these fundamental elements then quite simply, you won’t have much of a business at all.

Everything starts with recruiting and lead generation. No leads means no sales. No sales means no down line. No down line means… I’m sure you get the idea here. The entire process is built upon the foundation of recruiting and relationship-building with the express intent of maximizing product consumption and the success of your down line. Your bottom line is this. If you can’t replicate your success within your down line you ultimately fail to realize the true income generating potential of network marketing.

That being said, I’ll take this opportunity to summarize my own cautionary tale for those who are new to network marketing or who are just now thinking of taking the plunge. For those who have been around the block a time or two please bear with me. Much of my story may undoubtedly sound very much like your own.

When I first made the decision to start my network marketing business, I believed that with a great product and an effective marketing system, enough hard work would guarantee me success. I had the right attitude, but the wrong impression of what made this business tick. I expected to have a great deal to learn and I was eager to do so. I attended trainings, bought books, studied sales copy, purchased leads, ran ad campaigns, the whole routine.

I managed to generate a fair number of leads, and only a few conversions. For me that was fine. I assumed that if x amount of traffic equaled y amount of conversions, all I needed to do was… You guessed it, drive more traffic. So, here I am grinding like a mad man at driving traffic, and losing all but my shirt in the process. That’s when it dawned on me. Sure things are a bit slow going, but if my real return on my investment comes with creating a successful down line… How many members of my down line can I honestly say would be willing to put in this much time, effort, and yes money, for the same results. Not a single one…

I’ll say this once more just to be absolutely clear. If you can’t easily and effectively replicate a reasonable measure of success in your network marketing down line, then you are in effect spinning your wheels without going much of anywhere. If you assume that replicated content and replicated sites are the same thing as replicated success, you may want to think again.

Think of your business like a car and the content you provide your potential prospects as the wheels. If you expect to move your business you need the content you provide about your business to stand out. You need wheels that give your business traction. That traction comes in the form of having a unique voice and providing your prospects unique content about your business.

Well that about says it… Once you do your pre-selling and your marketing to generate your leads make sure you can provide good quality content to convert those leads into sales. Create an effective method to transfer some form of ownership to your down line so that they can achieve their own unique voice and replicate your success for themselves.

Oh and as for my million dollar secret… So, what is the secret that creates truly successful businesses, not to mention truly wealthy people? Here it is…

Do what you love… If you can find a way to turn your passion, your interest, even your favorite hobby into your business, then you will be in a much better position to achieve true success. Turning an opportunity to make money into something you love is infinitely more difficult that turning something you love into an opportunity to make money.

If this information helps even one person out there find a bit of the success that we all seem to be searching for, then I’d say that this article has served it’s purpose very well. For any questions or further information, feel free to contact me.

The Lure of Affiliate Marketing: Building Blocks of an Online Empire

With the recent rise of the affiliate marketing industry as a true online wealth building powerhouse, a steady stream of aspiring entrepreneurs are taking full advantage of the affiliate marketing boom.

Unlike the older online business models which would call for the tedious tasks of website design as well as product design and placement, the affiliate industry allows marketers to generate significant revenue with hardly any setup cost.

Successful online business owners, the savvy bunch that they are, recognized the great potential such a hungry and egger sales force presented.

For the companies with product to sell, affiliate programs allow them to greatly increase product exposure on a paid for performance commission basis.

For newly inducted online entrepreneurs, affiliate programs represent a real opportunity to make serious income online without much of the risk, research or investment associated with product development and placement.

While securing a solid financial base through affiliate programs, new online marketers also manage to hone their skills among the marketing elite of e-commerce.

Besides the financial aspect, affiliate marketing also provides a golden opportunity for those looking for long term gains and high end profits, to gain the experience necessary to take full advantage of all the unbelievable benefits the net has to offer.

This kind of experience has indeed put many on the fast track to building their own online empires one affiliate marketing program at a time.

Of course there is always the matter of deciding which program is right for you. There are as many options available as there are stars in the sky.

Be sure to do your homework to determine what your potential program has to offer. Even the best compensation plan won’t mean much, unless the product boasts a fair amount of demand, just as the hottest selling product should provide a fair return on your time and effort in making each sale.

Once you’ve chosen your affiliate marketing program and got down the basics of promoting your products and collecting reasonable rewards for your efforts, you’ll likely have no problem duplicating your success with additional products.

As you manage to continue to build your online empire you also have the option of creating your own products and services to leverage all your hard won experience and know-how.

This is by far the most easy to follow blueprint for success online.

First, gain knowledge and experience with little to no risk marketing affiliate products.

Once you have a formula that works, repeat your success with additional products.

Finally, gain the maximum leverage for you knowledge and expertise by creating and selling your own products or services.

Lastly, you may consider creating your own affiliate program to further increase your marketing exposure.

So, for those of you who are considering the possibilities, consider this. With the incredible amount of commerce that takes place online, some analysts estimate that those sales account for less than 5% of all transactions.

Ecommerce is still a relatively new commercial outlet that’s already revolutionized the way the world now does business. In the years to come many more fortunes will be made online than in any other sector.

The next incredible success story the world hears about could very well be your own.

If I have seen farther than others, it is because I was standing on the shoulders of giants.

Increasing Affiliate Web Site Marketing Income

How to increase your affiliate web site marketing income…

Whether you are interested in creating a stable primary source of income online or just looking to supplement your existing income through marketing affiliate programs…increasing your earning potential will be a constant concern. After all, the goal of any business venture is ultimately to maximize profits.

As an affiliate marketer there are two ways in which you can increase your affiliate web site marketing income. This is simply based upon the method in which affiliate programs work. Regardless of the type or program (i.e. pay per sale, pay per lead, etc.), all affiliate programs are all performance based commission opportunities. When you refer customers to your affiliate company’s website and the customer completes a certain action like filling out a form or making a sale, you receive a commission.

Therefore, to increase your commissions you really only have two options. Increase the number of customers you refer to your affiliate company’s sales site or increase the number of customers who complete the desired action once they arrive there. This second aspect of the affiliate commission equation is also known as your conversion rate or CR.

Increasing the number of customers you refer is of the two options available, the one which you undoubtedly have the most direct control over. The reason being is that the number of referrals you make is directly tied to the success of your own affiliate web site marketing efforts. Whether you market through banner ads, pay-per-click marketing, or what have you, once the customer arrives at the destination site the rest of the process is largely out of your hands.

Realistically, your CR will tend to vary anywhere from 1% to about 10% on the high end. But, how can you manage your all important CR? I say all important for a very important reason. Increasing referral traffic is of course one of you main objectives as an affiliate web site marketing professional, however which would you rather have? Would you rather have 500 referrals with a 1% conversion rate or 100 referrals with a 10% conversion rate? As you can see here, generating 5 times the referral traffic earns you…lets see; half the commission?

A fundamental difference between generating referral traffic and managing CR is this. Traffic generation and affiliate promotion will always cost you, either in time or money. Managing CR however, doesn’t cost any additional time or money. Your CR will directly reflect several important things.

How you reach your prospects…

What you say to your prospects once you reach them…

How you refer you prospects to your merchant site…

To effectively manage your conversion rates pay close attention each phase of your referral process to make sure you do the best possible job preparing customers to have an open-mind once they arrive at your merchant site. Pre-selling your prospects will make all the difference in increasing you CR.

In summary, you’ll want to focus on two goals to greatly increase you affiliate web site marketing income. Your first goal will be to maximize the amount of targeted traffic to your affiliate merchants by only spending time and money that produce maximum profit for you. Your second goal is to maximize your conversion rates by making the proper adjustments within your referral process to produce the best possible results.

Learn About Direct Marketing

To really learn about direct marketing and how you can use it to better your business you should first understand what direct marketing is.

According to Wikipedia, direct marketing is defined as “a sub discipline of marketing focused to driving purchases that can be attributed to a specific call to action”. This marketing discipline can include and medium that allows you to communicate directly with customers. Some examples of direct marketing include, direct mail, email, newspaper, radio, television, and of course the internet.

The main focus of any direct marketing strategy is to increase the number of customers that respond to your marketing campaign or “response rate” while also trying to decrease the cost of advertising. Increasing customer response to your advertising will accomplish two very important things. One, increase the number of sales leads generated by advertising, and two, further establish business name recognition.

The ability to properly communicate with your business’s target audience is an extremely important factor in your overall business success. As you learn about direct marketing; keep in mind that persistence really does pay.

One of the most important aspects of designing a successful direct marketing campaign is in targeting your audience. Developing a marketing campaign that speaks directly to your potential customer’s wants and needs will mean the difference between creating quality sales leads for your business and utter frustration at a lack of customer responsiveness.

Several important questions to answer when developing any direct marketing campaign are:

    * Who..? Who are you targeting with your particular business message? Who are the people who would be most interested in hearing what you have to say?

    * Why..? Do you just want people to review a few helpful products..or do you want them to retain your services?

    * What…? What specific benefits are you offering through your message?

    * When…? Are you looking for a more immediate response from your reader…or are you providing food for thought and building your relationship?

    * Last but not least…How? How do you intend to present and distribute your message to your potential customers?

Your study of direct marketing will be an on going process. It’s important to understand what works for you and your business, what doesn’t, and why that is. The key to success will be in continuing to try different strategies and techniques in order to perfect a particular combination of things that work well for you.

Network Marketing Opportunities That Work

Network marketing opportunities that work not only exist, but are also doing quite well for themselves and their representatives. Some people will no doubt scoff at the notion. It’s understandable considering the number of businesses that pose as reputable top notch network marketing opportunities.

To give you a better idea of what network marketing is and what it isn’t, let’s look at some of the basics of network marketing. Network marketing isn’t an industry in and of itself. It’s a method of distribution for various products and services.

Network marketing organizations rely on their representatives to promote and sell the company product or service. This saves the company the huge expense of marketing themselves.

Also, because network marketing allows reps to recruit and train their own sales team, they receive a portion of the revenue generated by their sales team.

When most people hear the terms network marketing or multi-level marketing, they tend to immediately think “oh no…! Not another pyramid scheme.” It’s good to have a basic understanding of the fundamental difference between the two.

Point blank, pyramid schemes are illegal. Besides that however, pyramid schemes don’t rely on the sale of a product or service. Instead, these organizations focus heavily on recruiting and provide give little or no value to the new recruit aside for the promise of big bucks.

So, if the business opportunity you’re looking at doesn’t have a clearly defined product or service, or relies heavily on fancy recruiting systems to “do all the work for you”, it’s most likely an just another attempt to dazzle you with lots of hype.

Believe me, I speak from personal experience. “Everything that glitters, ain’t gold.” Use good judgment, and be sure to do the proper background research before you spend your hard earn money on a potential business opportunity.

Network marketing opportunities are a legitimate means to provide some additional income at low cost and limited risk.

The Last Days Of The Fulton Fish Market

It’s 4:30 AM in the morning. Freezing, cold wind blasts off Manhattan’s East River. The last of New York City’s drunken revelers are sauntering home, but Mike Cioffi, braving the chill in a bomber jacket, fingerless gloves, and carrying a one-foot steel fishhook, has work to do. He is a fishmonger at the Fulton Fish Market in downtown Manhattan. Like many of the men at this market, Cioffi has worked in the same spot where he now stands for 35 years. "It was like I was born here," he says.

At 184 years, the Fulton Fish Market is America’s oldest. Every morning from 2 AM until a little after 9 AM its cobblestone streets are bustling with speeding forklifts, white delivery vans, crates of fish stacked five high, and fishmongers like Cioffi. Ships once docked directly at this port, but today fish is delivered almost exclusively by truck.

Soon the stalls, the men, and of course the fish will be moved into a sprawling, new location at Hunts Point in the Bronx. What won’t be moved are the market’s rough charm and the deep-rooted sense of history that this place engenders. "I hate to see the market move because of the history. It’s progress I guess," says Ronni Di Gregario, who has worked at the market for 32 years.

The city is quick to advertise the new 400,000-square-foot facility’s modern refrigeration, increased loading space, and executive offices. They have been less clear on development plans for the evacuated market on Fulton Street, but judging by its proximity to the tourist-heavy South Street Sea Port and the sky rocketing value of Manhattan real estate, an expansion of the Sea Port’s shopping malls, restaurants, and residential complexes seems likely.

Some at the Fulton Fish Market are excited about the new location, anticipating increased business from being next to Hunt’s Point’s meat and vegetables markets. "I am looking forward to the move," says Michael Driansky, who put two kids through college on his 28 years of service at the market. "It’s going to be one-stop shopping."

"It’s going to be a better environment," agrees Patrick Grosso. "After 28 years outside, I feel like a weathered fence, even though I look good for my age."

Still most of the men – there are no women on the market floor and few in the upstairs offices – seem morose over the move. "This is part of us," says Mike Rizzoto, spreading his arms out to the frenetic bustle of forklifts, steel hook-carrying men, and deep, blue, morning sky.

It’s now 6 AM and dawn is breaking across the water, spreading warm tendrils of orange light through the spires of the Brooklyn Bridge and lighting up the top half of the market’s two-story buildings. A few yards away, a group of men gathers around a metal trashcan. Spent fish crates and driftwood are burning inside of it, sending huge flames and smoke into the air. Pat O’Conner, who has lived on the streets around the market for 16 years, is among them.

Thumbing an open can of Mustang malt liquor only half hidden in his winter coat, O-Conner details the names of the loading bays by the water: Coal Chute, Pier 20, and Stephanie. A red brick building behind him, now prime real estate, was once a brothel, he explains. He puts his hands forward and warms them over the small inferno inside the trashcan. Three Korean men huddle near, keeping themselves warm and adding driftwood to the burning pile.

Despite not actually having an official job at the market – sometimes he helps move crates for a few dollars – O’Conner plans on leaving with it to Hunt’s Point. "Down here it’s more like a family," he says of the deep camaraderie at the market. "I think the people here, they are going to miss us."

Viral Marketing – Making the Most Out of Web 2.0

One of the most vital aspects of this recent marketing concept which every business owner should be aware of is that it’s completely free. With the right idea, intuition and planning; viral marketing on social networking websites can return thousands of client prospects to any business website.

Social networking website, as the name suggests, are networks of people and friends who use the Internet to communicate, socialise and share, all through one website. Common websites of this nature are Myspace, Facebook, Bebo and many others.

These websites can be utilized through viral marketing methods; that is the concept of providing marketing material which propagates itself to many other people by giving an incentive for this to occur. For today’s Internet audience this incentive is usually interesting, entertaining and more commonly, not related to the business involved.

This may sound confusing but it’s the system of these networking websites which allows this technique to become effective. For example if a business finds a video which could become popular. If this video is interesting, entertaining or both, it will entice viewers to pass it onto their friends to share it. By adding your website link or marketing message into that video as a footer, or maybe adding your URL to the video description, your business details are being passed wherever the video is sent. This is what makes viral marketing on social networking websites so powerful for businesses of any size.

One important factor must always be taken into account for successful viral marketing and that’s to not flood the media with your material. Journalists, the media and members of the public will value your contributions much more if every one of them has a sense of strong content and a good angle. Distributing viral releases or PR as much as you can will result in people devaluing your presence if the content isn’t worthwhile.

Some websites such as Myspace also offer profiles which can be used to the same effect. Making a profile for your business allows you to add people all over the world as friends, who can see your profile and therefore any marketing message you choose to present. However an interesting, unique angle is often required to make the most effective use of this method. For example using an interesting, make-believe character as the profile owner or offering another, more attention-grabbing incentive for visiting your website.

Should you get professional assistance with social networking campaigns? That’s the question many businesses will ask. Managing director of SCD Marketing Scott Chapman explains:

“One of the great benefits of viral marketing on social networks and anywhere else is that it’s 100% free and can provide fantastic results. Good marketing agencies do have the Public Relations and marketing knowledge to get the right angle for your material, which will result in the most publicity. Whether a person chooses management for their viral campaigns depends on the situation they are in but if the budget is there then I’d certainly recommend looking into it.”
